The Accrington Pals at The Garrick Theatre Lichfield

March 2015

I was present as a member of The Birmingham Pals who staged a "Meet and Greet" event at The Garrick Theatre in Lichfield to support the performances of a play called "The Accrington Pals".
Over the five nights the production was on we greeted the audience as they arrived and displayed items of kit and equipment in the foyer.  We were available to talk to the audience as they arrived, and also during the interval, and to answer their questions about The Great War

On the eve of World War I, the young men of Accrington raise a ‘Pals' volunteer battalion and march excitedly off to war. But the trenches bear horrors worse than any man could have imagined.

Back at home, the Accrington women unite in the face of life, where nothing will ever be the same again.

Set between 1914 and 1916, Peter Whelan's intimate and moving, play depicts the powerful effects of war on a close-knit community, for those on the front as well as those left behind and on the brink of change.
