Dudley Armed Forces Day 2015

28 June 2015

I went to Himley Hall near Dudley with The Birmingham Pals to take part in their Armed Forces Day event on Sunday 28 June 2015.

Many aspects of the Armed Forces were represented at the event, which included a vererans badge presentation ceremony.

The Pals set up camp near the lake.

The area in front of the lake formed a small arena in which we gave  number of displays of firepower, rifle drill and bayonet practice.

During the day we had a constant stream of visitors to the camp who looked at the exhibits and asked questions.  This included a number of veterans.

One of the highlights of the Armed Forces Day Event was meeting a WW2 Warwickshire Regiment veteran Jim Fletcher who was at Dunkirk, amazingly pulled up out the water by an old school chum.  He then took part in the D-Day landings, getting captured shortly after.

To find out more about the life of Jim Fletcher look at this article in the local newspaper, The Express and Star.

The event was also attended by a large number of other groups and organisations who put on a variety of displays.
