Staffordshire Fostering Fun Day 2014

Stafford Rugby and Cricket Ground
Sunday 11 May 2014

Staffordshire Fostering and Adoption held their Fun Day for Foster Carers at Stafford Cricket and Hockey Ground on Sunday 11 May.

I was there with a World War One exhibition, consisting of a display of period firearms, period equipment, and artefacts I obtained in France while on holiday at the village of Carnoy in the Somme region last year.

Unfortunately the weather was wet and windy, and as a result our display was set up in one of the tents provided by the organisers rather than our own Great War Armourer's period tent.

We put on an arena display, firing blank rounds from a variety of guns used in the Great War, including a Magazine Lee Enfield (Long Lee), a Short Magazine Lee Enfield (SMLE), a P14 rifle and a German Mauser. We also displayed the gas-firing Vickers Machine Gun and the Lewis Light Machine Gun.

Unfortunately, due to weather conditions, the planned drill display was cancelled.
