Kelmarsh Festival of History 2011

A weekend at one of the country's largest multi-period events

In mid-July the English Heritage "Festival of History 2011" was held in the grounds of Kelmarsh Hall.

I attended the event as a member of both The Birmingham Pals and The Anglo-Boer War Staffords.

With The Birmingham Pals I portrayed an infantryman assisting with the Field Hospital.

Casualties from the trenches were brought into the Field Medical Unit to be treated before being evacuated.

There was also a fly-past by a bi-plane.

The Anglo-Boer War Staffords joined several other groups in the main arena to portray a scene from an encounter between the British Army and Boer settlers during the Second Boer War.

I took part as a Boer combatant.

There were many periods covered, ranging from The Romans, through the Middle Ages, up to World War 2.
The Second World War featured aircraft simulating bombing runs and a dog-fight as well as the usual ground vehicles and battles.
