Visit to Staffordshire Regiment Museum

Sunday 18 October 2015

I was at The Staffordshire Regiment Museum on Sunday 18 October to take part in a joint visit by students from The Academy of English in Oldenburg, North West Germany and the High Arcal School, Dudley.
After visiting the war cemeteries on Cannock Chase the group made their way to The Staffordshire Regiment Museum for lunch and a tour of the trenches, including a battle scene re-enactment.

The visit had been organised by John Goodyear, formerly from West Bromwich, who is the Headteacher of the Academy in Germany - one of a series of activities to commemorate the 100th anniversary of The Great War and to show how far relationships between the two former adversaries have come.

"The Rifles" re-enactment group were also at the Museum.  They took part in the trench tours and the battle, and also demonstrated the use of their Leach Trench Catapult.
