Portmeiricon 2013 - The Election Parade

The Annual Convention of Six of One, held at Portmeirion

Each year the members of "Six of One" arrive at Portmeirion in North Wales for their annual convention.

Portmeirion was the location where the 1960's iconic series, starring Patrick McGoohan, was filmed.

The convention attracts visitors from around the world who take part in reconstructions from the programme.

The first event of each day was The Election Parade.

On Saturday I played the part of Number 6 in the re-enactment, and on Sunday I played the part of
Number 2.

The scene starts with Number 2 and Number 6 discussing the forthcoming village election, and Number 6 is persuaded to stand for election to become the "New Number 2".

SATURDAY...

Number 6: Richard Cartwright
Number 2: Gary Murfin
Number 58 (Maid): Isobel Smith
Number 113a: Gary Pike
Number 113b: Colin Pike
Undertakers: Clive Wright, Will Hubert, Mick Huggins
Village Guards: Chris Spooner, Wayne Langford,
Andy Douglas

The two candidates - Number 2 and Number 6 - leave, followed by crowds of chanting villagers carrying posters.

The election campaign has begun.

The parade stops at The Gloriette, where Number 2 and Number 6 address the crowd of villagers.

The procession continues through the village towards the Town Hall where the votes will be cast.

Number 6 is interviewed by the reporter and photographer (Numbers 113a and 113b).

The crowd then follow Number 6 to The Stone Boat, where he gives another speech before making his way to confront Number 2 for the last time and to receive the results of the election.

As Number 2 admits defeat, Number 6 is led to the Control Room by the maid.

It then becomes apparent that the election was yet another plan to extract information from Number 6, and the true extent of the deception is revealed.

SUNDAY...

Number 2: Richard Cartwright
Number 6: Craig Walter
Number 58 (Maid): Teresa McKenzie
Number 113a: Gary Pike
Number 113b: Colin Pike
Undertakers: Clive Wright, Will Hubert, Mick Huggins
Village Guards: Chris Spooner, Wayne Langford,
Andy Douglas

The Election again started with an exchange over breakfast between Number 2 and Number 6.  This was followed by a parade to the Piazza Square to address the crowds.

The parade was filmed by a German television company who were following the activities of the German branch of Six of One.

After casting votes and addressing the crowds on the Stone Boat, Number 6 exchanges comments with Number 2 before receiving the results of the election.

Number 2 concedes defeat by throwing down his scarf.

Number 6 is guided to the Control Room by Number 58 where the deception is finally revealed.
