Christmas celebrations at the Historic Dockyard, Portsmouth.
Street Entertainment

The Victorian Festival of Christmas was held in the Historic Dockyards.

This year the event included a celebration of the birth of Charles Dickens in Portsmouth 200 years ago with the inclusion of a number of characters from his writings.

Musical entertainment was provided by a number of groups, ranging from marching pipe bands to carol singers and theatre groups to industrial improvised musicians.

The Victorian streets were filled with a wide variety of characters, ranging from the homeless to HRH Queen Victoria, from sweeps and street urchins to "Ladies of the Night".

Other characters such as Sweeney Todd and Mrs Lovett, Scrouge and Bob Cratchit, and Fagin and The Artful Dodger could be found in the area.

Various methods of transport were on display, ranging from steam engines to tricycles and penny-farthings.
